Roche Pre-School Playgroup has been part of the village of Roche for over 30 years. It has gone through many changes over the years, but the fundamental purpose of the Pre-School has not changed and that is to support our community and provide a safe and nurturing environment for the children in our care.

We care for children aged 2–4 years (both funded and paid places are available), and are open from 8:15-2:30 Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays.

We pride ourselves in forming strong relationships with our families and supporting them in any way we can.

Communication is key and our open-door policy helps us to underpin the foundation of our purpose.

The COVID-19 pandemic has affected all of us in different ways and after conversations with other professionals we believed the village would benefit from a weekly toddler group where parent/carers can socialise, and children can develop their social skills. Our toddler group has been a huge success and we have had some amazingly positive feedback. We run our toddler group (term time) on Wednesdays 12:30-2:00 for all ages in Roche Victory Hall.

The Pre-School is in the heart of the village behind the victory hall, we have a large outside area with educational spaces for children to freely explore. Our classroom provides a home from home environment where children can feel secure and empowered to embark on their own learning methods. Our dedicated practitioners, support, and model play with children so that they learn independence and develop an understanding that their thoughts, ideas, and emotions are valid and valued. We run free flow sessions in that our door is open, so that children can choose to be inside or outside. We provide a healthy and well-balanced snack.

Our curriculum supports our ethos that children Learn Through Play.

“We believe children learn when they have the freedom to explore their environment and create their own play.

Having this freedom allows them to build on their resilience, problem-solving and social skills.

By providing an inspiring environment we aim to motivate and challenge children within their play.

By finding the balance between child led and practitioner led play we are able to create a fascinating and nurturing space with endless learning opportunities.

The early years of a child’s life is the foundation of not only their education but all areas of their development and life skills.

Every child has the right to play and be heard, the child’s voice is the most important aspect to how we as a setting plan and provide for all the children within our care.

We understand that every child is unique and are not comparable to others.

We follow a ‘PLANNING IN THE MOMENT’ approach, in that we base our planning on the children’s interests and respond by implementing resources and extending play based on their choices.” -Learning through play, Roche Pre-School Playgroup Curriculum

As part of our aim to support the community of Roche we embrace local business’s.
